Mitre 10 and our stores are deeply and personally connected to the communities we serve and have been since our creation in 1959. Mitre 10 takes pride in contributing back to the community with each Mitre 10 store and their staff helping their local community in their own unique way. As an Australian member-owned cooperative the vast majority of our stores are owned and operated by people who live and work within the communities that we operate in. Being an active participant in our local communities strengthens relationships and helps in shaping Mitre 10 as socially responsible.

Mitre 10’s commitment to being “mighty helpful” extends beyond having the right DIY advice and the right range of products at the right price. We aspire to be 'good neighbours' in the communities that we serve, including the contribution of skills and funding to selected community projects.

Most recently at a national level Mitre 10 created and has supported the Mitre 10 Junior Landcare Grants Program since 1992This program provided grants to schools and youth groups across Australia for environmental initiatives. In this time Mitre 10 has donated in excess of $700,000 to over 1,400 projects. In addition many Mitre 10 stores have provided these schools with expert advice and materials to undertake these important projects.
