Caulking Image 1 Fullsize

Caulking

Caulking can get a bit tricky, so use the following tips on how to get great results.

  • Cut a 3mm the nozzle of the caulk at a 45 degree angle close to the tip (end).
  • For a neat cut use a sharp knife and support the nozzle on a solid surface as you cut.
  • To lay a smooth bead begin at one end and finish at the other in one smooth application (without stopping).
  • If you stop and start the result will be an uneven bumpy bead.
  • Pull the trigger of the caulking gun slowly and steadily to ensure the caulk flows at an even rate.
  • When the trigger reaches the end of its stroke, release it quickly begin pulling again instantly. The pressure in the tube will keep the flow going during the split second interruption.
  • Caulk may continue to flow slowly out of tube even after you release the pressure, so lift the gun as soon as you get to the end of the line.
