As a Mitre 10 store we pride ourselves on providing experienced staff who are able to offer friendly advice. Members of our team, namely Garry, Gerry and Keny, have been with us for over 30 years. During this time they have formed an integral part of all aspects of our business as it changed focus from building homes to supplying the building industry.

 

In the 1950’s the four founding partners emigrated from Germany and worked for a company building homes for the Snowy Mountain Scheme. They brought their experience to the Belmont, Newcastle area in 1957 when they established Macquarie Home Constructions, the forerunner of Macquarie Timber and Building Supplies. Shortly after establishment the fledgling business took up building contracts with the NSW Housing Commission.

Later the contracts expanded to building houses as far as Wee Waa and Moree. At the height of the contracts the company was building on average one finished house per day. During this period the partners discovered the need for quality houses built to client specifications. To cater for this the business underwent a massive expansion in operations resulting in the employment of an architect/designer and quantity surveyor. Furthermore all the required trades including a combined timber and aluminium joinery were established on site. This resulted in the business designing and constructing over 1000 quality homes that still stand with an unsurpassed quality and reputation.
