Celebrating Our Local Families

Introduction

Built by Families

Something that you may not know is that the majority of Mitre 10 stores are family owned and run. That means they go the extra mile for their communities.

Built by Families is a new series that tells the stories of proud local family businesses.

Benalla Mitre 10, Benalla, VIC

Custodians of Hardware

For father and son John and Gary Woodruff, Benalla has been home for over 25 years. Benalla Mitre 10 is a genuine family business.

Nearly all of the Benalla Mitre 10 staff live locally and those who join the business quickly become part of the Mitre 10 family.

This hardware store is part of the community, something the Woodruffs are extremely proud of.

Greg and his wife Mel are hopeful their kids Caitlin and Ben can extend the family legacy to seven generations and 200 years!

Johnson Bros. Mitre 10, Northern Beaches, NSW

Nothing by Halves

John and Bob Johnson started off with a small hardware business in the Northern Beaches of Sydney in 1955 and built it up into the thriving business it is today.

The community was always close to the hearts of John and Bob – both long time and active members of their local fire brigade and Lions Club.
Both brothers had 10 kids each - many of who are still working in the business today.

Strong values, community involvement and an emphasis on being dependable is clearly the legacy that the beloved John Johnson imparted on the business, something his sons and daughters proudly carry on to this day.
