Y’all wedi for this? We’re putting the spotlight on this unique, waterproof, ready-to-tile shower system.

While you may not have used this German-produced product, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of it.

wedi continues to grow in popularity, particularly with an appearance on The Block’s ‘Waterproofing Challenge’ as a reward to save contestants time.

The system is quite unique, representing a useful new waterproofing option that could potentially save you or your business days of work.

What is wedi?

wedi is a ready-to-tile shower system produced in Germany, 100%-waterproof and tested, certified and proven.

Basically, wedi acts as a substrate for shower instals, creating a pre-sloped but flat surface that’s also ready to bond strongly with tile or stonework adhesives.

Why use it?

wedi replaces the typical need for a liquid-applied membrane, making installation much easier and risk-free. It also eliminates the chance of failures due to things like pin holes, incorrect application or tears due to expansion and contraction over time.

On top of being mould- and mildew-proof, it will also remain fully functional even if it’s partially damaged, and comes with a 10-year warranty.

How can it make my job easier?

Firstly, the install time. Where a typical tiling job would take four days of install and drying time, wedi can be in and finished in just a few hours.

It’s also very lightweight, making it quick and easy to cut to shape and install. It’s this modular and easy-to-modify design that allows you to go from framework to ready to tile so quickly – according to wedi, “the fastest installation process in the industry.”

What is wedi made of?

All wedi products are made from a high-quality foam core in a distinctive blue colour, providing its water- and mould-proof properties.

This core is coated with a grey cement resin for a durable, flat surface to apply tiling onto. The coating is reinforced with a fibreglass mesh, providing strength and rigidity to support the weight
of tiling easily.

To keep using its products simple and fast, wedi breaks down its range into four basic parts, or areas, which can be used together in almost any way your project requires.
