Add a New Door Handle To Revamp Your Space

Adding a new door handle is a quick and easy way to revamp an old door. With so many styles and finishes available, you can easily find a handle that complements your decor and adds a touch of elegance to your home.

DIY Project Steps

1. Remove current handle

Locate the screws that hold the door handle in place, using a drill or screwdriver. Once the screws are removed, you should be able to pull the door handle away from the door. Locate the screws that hold the latch plate in place on the edge of the door, same process as the handle remove the screws once they are removed you should be able to pull the latch plate away from the door.

2. Put the new latch in

Place the new latch where you have just removed the old one. Make sure it goes in the correct way, the bevelled edge of the latch should face the direction that the door will close. Insert the screws that came with the latch through the screw holes in the latch and into the holes in the door, tighten the screws.

3. Remove the cover plate

Slide off the cover plate from your new handle. A cover plate is a decorative plate that covers the screws that hold the handle in place. Once you've removed the cover plate, you should see the screw plate beneath it.

4. Install your new handle

Place the handle on the door, aligning the screw holes in the handle with the screws in the door. Insert the screws into the screw holes, be sure to use the screws that came with the new handle. Once in place, use a drill to tighten the screws.

Tip: Be careful not to overtighten the screws as this can strip the threads or damage the handle.

5. Put cover plates on handle and test

Put the cover plates back on snapping it into place, check that the cover plate is flush against the door and that they are not loose or wobbly. Test the handle to ensure that it operates smoothly and securely and you’re done!

Tip: If the handle does not operate smoothly, adjust the position of the handle and screws until it does
