Hosting a garden party? Elevate your table setting with a stunning, living centrepiece! Whether you prefer a single statement pot or a cluster of smaller ones, this simple DIY project will bring a fresh, festive touch to your gathering.
DIY Project Steps
Gather Your Supplies
Start by heading to your local store to pick up everything you need. For this project, I’ve chosen a mix of Northcote Pottery’s Italian Terracotta Pots in various shapes and sizes. These classic pots are perfect for creating a rustic, stylish vibe.
1. Choose the Right Potting Mix
The key to vibrant plants is using a Debco Premium Potting Mix. Look for a mix with added benefits, like:
- Controlled-release fertilizer for up to six months of nourishment.
- Wetting agents to help water reach deep into the roots.
- Trace elements vital for healthy growth.
Fill your pots with this high-quality mix to give your plants the best start.
2. Pick Your Plants
For a festive garden party theme, I’ve gone with a red and white colour scheme using Kalanchoes, white lavender, and geraniums. These plants add vibrant colour and a cheerful touch to the table. Feel free to customize your plants and colours to suit the theme of your event.
3. Feed for Growth
To keep your plants looking their best, apply a dose of Scotts Osmocote Controlled-Release Fertiliser. This all-purpose fertilizer provides essential nutrients to your plants over time. Simply sprinkle it around the base of the plants and let it work its magic.
4. Arrange and Dress the Table
Apply your choice of finish, we’ve gone with a walnut interior stain. Make sure to apply the stain evenly, working with the grain of the wood. Let the stain dry completely. We used one coat for ours and left it to dry outside for an hour.
Tip: If you want a deeper colour, you can apply a second coat of stain after the first coat has dried
