How To Declutter Your Garage for Under $700

If parking a car in your garage is a problem because there’s too much clutter, adding some storage can be a simple and cost-effective solution. And it doesn’t have to break the bank. Here are some simple ideas for an ideal makeover, all for under $700.

1. Remove, recycle and discard

First up, get rid of the junk. Discard any unwanted items and recycle what you can.  Make three piles if it’s easier – items to keep, items to sell and those to donate. Remember, this is an audit where you need to be tough.

Then once everything is gone, give the space a good clean. Sweep up the dust, dirt, and debris, and give the walls a good wipe over too. Once your garage is cleared and clean, you’re ready to start the transformation.

2. Select storage solutions

Do some research on the storage options that will best suit the space and of course the budget.

Think work benches, cabinets with drawers. A good tip is to install shelving on the walls and this will help prevent clutter on the ground in the future.

Before making the selection it’s a good idea to measure the space to ensure what you’ve got in mind will fit.

3. Plan the attack

Make a plan to tackle which storage solution to make first.

We started with some simple shelves.  Shelving is a great way to save space.  It also makes it easy to find things when you need them.

For the home handy person, every garage needs a work bench. This provides a safe and clear place to work. Install yours where there is adequate lighting and powerpoints.

Making cabinets and drawers are great for storing smaller items. To keep things even more organised, get some small storage boxes for the drawers. When making and installing your storage, be sure to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
