1. Remove the old door seal
Start by gently lift the old door seal from one corner. Carefully peel away the seal along the edges of the door until it's completely removed.
Tip: Use the utility knife to lift the beginning of the seal and if necessary, use it to cut through any adhesive or stubborn parts.
2. Clean and dry the frame
Once the old seal is removed, clean the door surface thoroughly to ensure a smooth and secure attachment for the new seal. Remove any adhesive residue or dirt using a methylated spirits and a cloth.
3. Apply and cut the side seal
Starting from the top, align the new seal along the edge of the frame. Press it firmly against the frames edge, making sure it adheres securely. Work your way down the side of the frame, applying consistent pressure to ensure proper attachment. Use a utility knife or scissors to cut at the bottom.
4. Apply and cut the top seal
Following the same process as the side, start in the corner, align the new seal along the edge of the frame. Press it firmly against the frames surface, making sure it adheres securely. Work your way across the top of the frame, applying consistent pressure to ensure proper attachment. Use a utility knife or scissors to cut at the end.
Note: If there is enough seal left, you can also focus on the inside edge near the hinge. Once you have replaced the door seal, close the door and conduct a thorough inspection to identify any gaps or areas where the seal may not be properly fitted. Pay attention to any light shining through or cold air coming in. Take the time to make any necessary adjustments to ensure a snug and effective seal all around the door.
