Floor boots are attached to the floor at the top and the ducting at the bottom and are the transition between ducing and the floor vent itself. These can be an easy, low cost replacement for rusted old steel floor boots. The use of polyethylene has several advantages over steel - no sharp edges, pre-drilled holes for easier installation, lower cost and wont rust. The lighter weight construction is not a problem as boots are not load bearing. Note that 100x300mm floor vents generally have a face size of approx 140 x 340mm.
