Build a Cubby House with Mitre 10

What better place for a child’s imaginative play and magical adventures than a Cubby House. With this easy-to-assemble life sized cubby, children can have fun entertaining all their friends - real and pretend. Here are the steps to building a cubby at your place.

DIY Project Steps

1. Find the right spot

First up, select where to place the cubby. Keep in mind some protection against the elements and ideally a level surface. We selected this design for our cubby because it has windows for airflow and natural light, but choose what’s right for your conditions.

2. Check what’s in the pack

Carefully check the assembly instructions and make sure all items are included in the pack. Take some time over this. A good tip is to lay all the pieces out on the backyard. Put small pieces such as screws on a tray to ensure they are not lost during the assembly process.

To ensure your cubby is safe, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Adults only should assemble the product and once built, it’s important to regularly check that screws are tight and there are no sharp edges.

3. Build your tiny house

First up, attach side walls to the rear wall of the cubby. Remember all screws should be securely fastened. Next put up the walls.  Fix these together with the screws provided in the pack.

Next install the front walls (these have the decorative planter boxes).

Then fit the front swing door. Be sure to leave a 20mm gap to allow an easier swing of the door. And lastly attach and install the roofing materials. This part of the project needs to be done in steps, the final being the timber-slatted roof top. Once you’ve done this, attach the window benches.  To keep the timber on your cubby in good shape you might want to add a coat or two of sealant at this stage.

4. Make the magic happen

Once your cubby is built, style it up. Add a welcome mat at the front door and plant out the window boxes with pretty flowers. Then let the fun begin and invite teddy friends for a sleepover or tea party.

5. An easy DIY project for hours of fun
