How To Propagate Plants

You may have come across the term “plant propagation” and wondered what it is. Put simply this is the technique of creating a new plant from an existing one. Sounds complicated? Not at all. Our hack will help you to succeed. Propagated plants make the best gifts for family and friends or help you extend your garden without having to buy new plants.

Succulents

Succulents are some of the easiest plants to propagate. Start by cutting a small piece from your plant and replant it into a small container - today we are using peat pots. Fill up your small container (peat pots) with potting mix. Once the plant has taken root, you can transfer it to its new home.

Tip: if you use peat pots, they will dissolve in the ground

Monstera Adansonii (Swiss Cheese Plant)

The Swiss Cheese Plant is another easy plant to propagate. Cut below the base of the aerial root and pot the cutting into a small container with good potting mix. Alternatively, you can place the cutting in a jar with water and watch it grow.

Tip: this process also be done with Philodendron, Spiderwort, Pothos and Arrowhead Vine.

Grasses

Grasses can also be propagated easily. Start by separating the plant from the roots, divide it up, and re-plant it into a small container with good potting mix.

Tip: for trickier propagation, you can use rooting powder
