How To Turn a Pallet Into a Bar Stool

How To Turn a Pallet Into a Bar Stool

DIY Project Steps

1. Prepare the pallet

Find yourself a pallet. Many stores will give these away for free so don’t be afraid to ask. Here we have used a pallet from Bayswater Timber Mitre 10.

Use a reciprocating saw to carefully cut out the nails and disassemble the pallet. Be mindful as you go, making sure to preserve as many bearers and rails as possible as these will form important pars of your bar stool in the end.

2. Mark and cut bearers

After you've successfully taken apart the pallet use the bearers to create the legs. Measure and mark the bearers at 700mm and then, using your circular saw, cut all four legs.

3. Mark and cut rails

Now, grab those slats and take your time to measure and cut them. You'll require a total of 12 pieces, each measuring 350mm. Again, using your circular saw cut the rails at the measured 350mm.

4. Assemble the stool sides

Set up two legs on sawhorses or a bench. Put one of the cut rails at the top to join the legs together. Use a tape measure to mark a spot 150mm from the bottom of the legs. Attach another rail with screws at this mark to create the footrest. Repeat this process with the remaining two legs.

Tip: Ensure that the edges are aligned and level.

5. Connect both sides

Now, let's attach and screw both stool sides together using another four rails. Just follow the same process as in step four. Screw one rail into the top to join both sets of legs, and another one at 150mm from the bottom. Flip it over and repeat the same on the other side.

You've got yourself a box.

6. Finish the stool

With the remaining four rails, simply screw each one onto the top to create the seat section. Ensure they are even and aligned on both sides.

Job done! Now you have yourself a new bar stool.
