How to paint a chair with Accent

Instead of throwing away older furniture that no longer suits your décor, why not give it a makeover? Giving an old chair a new look is not only kind to the planet but is also a wise option for those keen to keep their budgets under control. Changing the look of a wooden chair is a wonderful way to give it a fresh lease on life. And best of all, you can customise your piece by selecting a colour to suit your style. Consider using a bright pop of colour like vibrant pink, zesty yellow or grass green on your chair to create a feature piece sure to inject energy into any space. And you can tie it all together by adding matching accessories such as cushions, vases or small art pieces to create effortless appeal. Adding a statement chair to your room is a clever way to make a big impact. You can find all the information you need for this creative DIY project below.

1. SAND

Lay down the dropsheet and lightly sand the chair all over until smooth whilst wearing safety glasses and a dust mask. Start sanding with 180 grit sandpaper and progress to 240 grit. For the legs and to get into corners, sand without the block. Fold the paper in half, wrap it around the spindle and sand back and forth.

2. WIPE WITH A TACK CLOTH

Dust is one of the biggest causes of a rough paint job. Remove as much dirt and dust as possible with a clean dry rag then use a tack cloth to remove remaining dust particles. Draw the tack cloth across the surface with very light strokes for a smooth and dust-free finish.

3. PRIME

Primer provides a stable surface that paint will adhere to. Apply a thin coat of Accent Multi Prep Water Based using a paint brush over the entire chair and don’t forget the undersides. When the primer is dry, lightly sand with 240 grit sandpaper and wipe down to remove all sanding dust. Apply a second thin coat of Accent Multi Prep Water Based, sand and clean again

4. PAINT

Load the paint brush with Accent Doors, Windows & Trims and use short strokes that run parallel to the wood grain. Keep a wet edge at all times to prevent lap marks. Let the paint dry completely, gently sand with 240 grit sandpaper and remove all dust between coats. Apply the paint in multiple thin coats. Two coats of paint may be sufficient to achieve even colour coverage, some colours will require more than two. Let the final coat dry overnight or longer before using the chair

Add a stylish new chair to your room with these four simple steps! As we’ve illustrated above, this little project can be completed with ease and is an excellent way to reuse an existing chair.
And with Accent Doors, Windows & Trims, you can be sure of an exceptional finish! You can make an impression by refreshing your home with Accent.
