Paint your Outdoor Pots

Paint your Outdoor Pots

Potted plants make a beautiful addition to any home or garden. Whether filled with foliage plants, colourful flowers, or aromatic herbs, potted plants can create natural points of interest indoors and out. And terracotta pots are the ideal blank canvas as you can easily personalise them by selecting your favourite colours to complement your space. You can combine fresh whites with charcoal greys or jewel tones like emerald green for a timeless look. Combining pots of different shapes and sizes and arranging them in clusters effectively enhances any environment. Create your own collection of unique pots by following the four handy steps below. And don’t forget to take a look at our shopping list for all the products and equipment you need to get started.

1. Prep

Start by cleaning the pots. Run the pots underwater and gently scrub them with the brush, removing dust, dirt, and grime. Allow the pots to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

2. Prime

Next, place your first pot on the Lazy Susan and carefully apply a coat of terracotta primer to both the inner and outer surfaces. Priming is an essential part of the process as it functions as a base for the paint to bond to.

3. Paint colour A

Using a brush, paint the pot with your first colour. Allow the paint to dry for two hours. Once dry, gently sand the pot and apply a second coat of paint.

4. Paint colour B

Again, allow the paint to dry for two hours. When it is completely dry, place masking tape around the pot to mask off for your second colour. Repeat the painting process for the second colour and allow the pot to dry before using it.

Potted plants look fantastic anywhere around the home. From the porch to the back veranda, kitchen or home office, they can brighten any space and help to create an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.
